These days, everyone says you have to sell digital products if you’re a creator.
This makes a lot of sense.
A digital product is an amazing opportunity to diversify your income.
It’s also something you control. No changing affiliate programs, compliance headaches, or rules to hold you back.
But when you’re first starting out, I won’t like, everything seems overwhelming.
What kind of product do you sell? Where do you sell? And will people actually care enough to buy what you’re peddling?
In 2023, my brain was running through all these questions and more.
But I decided to just sell something to my audience. So, I spent a week creating a simple freelance writing eBook.
Here’s how the next two years or so went:
Roughly $3,700 in sales for my first product.
Honestly, this is a pretty small number considering I was selling this thing for two years.
But this whole experiment highlighted a few things:
Your audience is probably willing to buy something from you
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel with your first product
Having something to sell is probably better than having nothing to sell
Again, not that shocking of a revalation.
But if you’re a content creator or business owner who has been thinking about selling digital products, stop waiting.
Your first product doesn’t have to be perfect. Just create something, launch quickly, and optimize as you go along.

It doesn’t matter if you’re selling eBooks, digital artwork, budget templates, or something else. Right now, the barrier to entry for creating and monetizing digital products has never been lower.
So far, this has been my first and only product. But I’m going to build more. And I’ll be sure to update you here on Substack with any new tests and results.
